“Making Biscuits” with Crosby and Buddy

What makes cats knead? You know – that methodical, alternating paw mechanism that sends your feline into a purring, hypnotic state.

Whether we’re getting ready for bed or watching tv on the couch, cats love to get cozy by “kneading.” Obviously, they find it comforting.

Kneading is essentially the motion cats make when applying pressure with their paws onto a soft object, such as a blanket or a lap. It can be a way to mark territory, or prepare a place to sleep (Buddy), a feeding behavior from their kittenhood nursing days, or simply for basic comfort – they find it soothing (Crosby).

Below is the Boys’ recipe for “making biscuits”… with a few comments thrown in for grins.

Buddy – “I do touchy-feely…but sometimes I do scratchy-bleedy!”

“This is my Biscuit Buddy!”

Crosby – “I am going to fluff my pillow and blanket the same way Mom & Dad do before they go to sleep.  I think it’s working…Zzzzzzzz “

Take two toes of love, place gently near your human.

A soft workspace is crucial.

“The key to good biscuits is the proper amount of drool.”

“Seeing your work isn’t always necessary.”

“Finding the right location will help you be a better biscuit maker.”

“You’re never too young to start making biscuits!”

“True biscuit makers sometimes get into ‘The Zone,’ but don’t worry. We’re still quite happy.”

“The easiest way to make biscuits is to just put one paw in front of the other.”

“Practice makes purrfect.”

“Once you get good enough, you can do it with your eyes closed…or even without materials.””

“First you make the biscuits. Then you munch the biscuits.”
