“Crosby, there’s an alien in the house! Look at the picture on Dad’s phone. Run, Crosby, run!!”

“That’s not an alien, Buddy. That’s Mom at the beauty shop!”
“Well, it’s not very beautiful. Is all that metal going to electrocute her?”
“No Buddy. That’s called aluminum foil. They use it to dye only certain sections of hair so the color doesn’t get in the other parts. It’s called ‘highlights’ – Mom has some red streak and blonde streak highlights.”

“Is that why Dad calls Mom ‘streak-ed head’ sometimes?”
“Yes, Buddy, he teases her that way. But Mom’s hair looks nice when it’s all done.”

“Crosby, I have orange and white hair. Do I need to go get my hair dyed to keep the orange color in it?

“No Buddy. You were born with orange & white fur and you will always have it.”

“How come you don’t have orange fur, Crosby?”
“Because I had a different mama and papa then you did. But I like my long, soft grey and white fur.”
“Crosby – I found a foil hat for cats on the internet. If we buy them and put them on, we can look like Mom. Check out the pictures!”

“I am NOT wearing a foil hat, Buddy. I feel stupid. And we are NOT dyeing our hair – it could poison us!! And we are NOT joining the Tin Foil Hat Cat Club!!”

“Jeez, Crosby, sometimes you are just no fun at all…”

The End…

Mom won’t let us…she read this from 2 vets, Dr. Megan Conrad & Dr. Seivert –
In general, cats usually aren’t fans of high-pitched noises (or any noises they’ve never heard before, really). And believe it or not, aluminum foil actually makes high-pitched sounds that humans can’t hear but your cat can.
“Cats have extremely acute hearing, and the strange crinkly noise that the foil makes when touched can be irritating to their ears,” Dr. Conrad said.
So while foil may look (and sound) like nothing much to you, your cat’s experience with it is totally different — and can actually be very annoying.
It has a weird texture…
“Cats find the texture and movement of aluminum foil weird because of the combination of smooth surfaces and rough edges,” Dr. Sievert said.
So whether the foil’s just lying flat, crinkled up into a ball or — gasp — crinkled up and then laid out flat, it’s really just too much for your cat to handle.
Basically, aluminum foil can create a sensory overload for a kitty — and he just doesn’t want to deal with it.
So Mom says we can’t play with it or put it in our hair! She doesn’t want us to choke on it either.
